Roy C. "Red" Simms, age 78, passed away Monday, September 30, 2013. He was born May 21, 1935 in Refugio, Texas to the late Theron W. and Lucy B. Johnson Simms.

He attended Texas A & M University, and proudly served in the United States Army and Army Reserves. Red went to work for Union Carbide in 1960 and worked for over 35 years before retiring with Dow. Roy C. "Red" Simms, age 78, passed away Monday, September 30, 2013. He was born May 21, 1935 in Refugio, Texas to the late Theron W. and Lucy B. Johnson Simms.

He attended Texas A & M University, and proudly served in the United States Army and Army Reserves. Red went to work for Union Carbide in 1960 and worked for over 35 years before retiring with Dow. He was an active member of Blyth Road Church of Christ. He was very giving of his time as he drove patients to their appointments with Dr. Robert T. McMahon. He enjoyed collecting stamps and coins, and baking. He was a charter member and past-president of the Victoria Women's Softball Association. He officiated football, baseball, and softball, and was a member of the Midcoast SFOA.

Red is survived by his wife, Joyce L. Simms; daughter, Sharon Simms-Eaton and husband Donnie; sons, Dennis Clayton Simms and Virgil L. Simms and wife Peggy, all of Victoria; sisters, Nell Limbrich of Big Wells, and Gemmella Simms of Corpus Christi; brother, Theron W. Simms and wife Audry of Watkinsville, Georgia; eight grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; and once great great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Diane Graham; and brother, Virgil Emmett Simms.
Visitation will be held 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at Colonial Funeral Home.Funeral Services will be held 10:00 am Thursday, October 3, 2013 at Colonial Funeral Home Chapel, with the Mr. Will McDonald officiating.Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery with full military honors under Auspices of Victoria County Veterans Council, AL, CWV, VFW, DAV, MCL, MOWW, Ex-POW, MOPH, VVA and the KWV.Serving as pallbearers will be Joe Graham, Dwayne Key, Thomas Quimby, Johnathan Noack, John Buniva, and Chris Garcia. Honorary pallbearers include the caregivers of Sodalis in Cuero.Memorial contributions may be made to the Sunny Glen Children's Home, 2385 W.
