Joseph W. George, age 91, passed away Sunday, November 4, 2012. He was born December 1, 1920 in Kingsville, Texas to the late Frank M. and Ila Josephine Hoover George.

Joseph served in the United States Navy and was awarded the Purple Heart Medal. After serving his country, he became a marine electrician and worked in the San Francisco Bay Naval Shipyards. He was a member of First Baptist Church. He was also a member of the VFW, American Legion, Disabled American Veterans, and Purple Heart Hall of Honor.

He is survived by his nieces and nephews: Joanna George of Tomball, Dixie (Doyle) Christian of Victoria, Ben (Margaret) Kyser of Austin, Lennis (Harold) Young of Port Lavaca, and DeWitt (Patricia) George of Pearland; and numerous great nieces and nephews and their families.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Anita Schmidt George; sister, Sybil M. Kyser; and brothers, Charles D. George and Richard M. George.

Visitation will be held 4:00 - 6:00 pm, Wednesday, November 7, 2012 at Colonial Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held 2:00 pm, Thursday, November 8, 2012 at Colonial Funeral Home with Rev. Nick Stewart officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery with full military honors under Auspices of Victoria County Veterans Council, AL, CWV, VFW, DAV, MCL, MOWW, Ex-POW, MOPH, VVA and the KWV. Serving as pallbearers will be Hugh Sappington, Kyle Foster, and Troy Hamman, Joe Turner, Bill Yeary and John Consley. Honorary pallbearers are Casey Christian, Bill Brasher, Rick Brasher, Deborah Brasher, and fellow members of the Pastor's Sunday School Class.
