Geraldine Gladys Grace Reeves Johns, 97, of Victoria passed away on Saturday, August 5, 2017.
She was born February 16, 1920 in Victoria, on South Reeves Ranch to Claude Augustus and Amelia Alvina Hohmann Reeves. She was a teacher for many years, receiving her BS degree in education from TSCW in Denton, Texas. Geraldine also served as a CCD teacher and held several offices with the William P. Rogers Chapter 44 of the United Daughters of the Confederacy. She was also an official member of the Rosie the Riveter association. Our beloved Geraldine loved to...

Geraldine Gladys Grace Reeves Johns, 97, of Victoria passed away on Saturday, August 5, 2017.
She was born February 16, 1920 in Victoria, on South Reeves Ranch to Claude Augustus and Amelia Alvina Hohmann Reeves. She was a teacher for many years, receiving her BS degree in education from TSCW in Denton, Texas. Geraldine also served as a CCD teacher and held several offices with the William P. Rogers Chapter 44 of the United Daughters of the Confederacy. She was also an official member of the Rosie the Riveter association. Our beloved Geraldine loved to ride horseback and her four wheeler, was an avid reader and had many collectables such as miniature bottles, rabbits, and tea cups. She was a rancher and raised Hereford cattle on her part of South Reeves Ranch.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wilford Campbell "W.C." Johns, and her sister Hazel Mildred Reeves (Earl Cletus) Schmeltzer and in-laws, Norman (Myra) Johns of Opp, Alabama, Philip (Essie Mae) Johns of Valparaiso, Florida, Evelyn (Jim) Abbot, and Ellene (Eulon) Mills of Florala, Alabama.

She is survived by her daughter, Susan Johns Purcell of Victoria; grandson, Wade Douglas Purcell of Victoria; nephews, Stephen Abbott (Angela) of Aiken, South Carolina, David Earl Schmeltzer, Michael Claude Schmeltzer, both of Victoria, and Paul Reed Schmeltzer (Glenda) of Missouri; nieces, Denise Annette Gainer (Frank Smolka) of Victoria, Katherine Ann Haas of Marble Falls, Texas, Sandra Lee Lakey (Michael) of Jasper, Texas, Janet Schmeltzer of Victoria, Laura Bennett (Jim of Victoria, Millissa Sue Aldridge (Stephen) of San Antonio, Texas, Jan Mills Harbuck, Cheryl Kay Mills Dunn (Ellis) of Florala, Alabama and Anne Mills Benson (Mark) of Opp, Alabama.

Family and guests will gather for a visitation from 6 to 8 pm on Tuesday, August 8, 2017 at Colonial Funeral Home. A rosary will be recited at 9:30 am on Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 am, Father Stephen Vacek presiding. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.
